Turmeric is one of the most important spices in the world, turmeric is a perennial herbaceous plant of the ginger family the tuberous rhizomes, or underground stems, of which have been used from antiquity as a condiment and spice since ancient times. 

The herb has been used since ancient times by the Indian and Chinese to treat different types of disease. There are different researchs on the uses and how turmeric works notably are the research on turmeric powder in the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

This article would focus on the uses of turmeric powder for skin, Turmeric powder is golden yellow in color, Turmeric root is ground to form turmeric powder, the powder is filled with different multivitamin and nutrient, but the most important chemical compound that can be found in turmeric powder is curcumin. 

Curcumin has been proven to be effective against inflammation when compare with different anti-inflammatory drugs in the market.

For many years, Indians has been using a secret ingredient called turmeric powder to lightning and glow their skin, the secret ingredient, however, can be used by different people from all over the world to achieve the result.

Removes acne

Due to the presence of antibacterial properties in turmeric powder, you can use turmeric powder to kill and remove acne from your skin, Turmeric works by opening the skin pores allowing the dirt skin cells, bacteria, and oil to come out of the pores and later kills the bacteria causing acne.

Mix 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder with 1 tablespoon of honey and add the paste to the affected area. Leave the paste on your skin for 10 minutes before washing it off with water. Warning: Before applying turmeric powder on your skin, test turmeric powder on your hand to see if you are sensitive or not and wait for a day or two. If after applying turmeric powder, there is redness and swellings on your arm please don’t use turmeric powder. People who are allergic to turmeric spice in food should not use turmeric powder on their skin.

Remove acne scar

Acne scar is left behind after you have successfully kill acne, the scar often reminds people of the struggle and pain they pass through. Mix one tablespoon of turmeric powder with one tablespoon of rice flour and one tablespoon of either honey or lemon juice until it forms a thick paste, wash your face with water and pat it to dry before applying the paste on your face and let it dry before washing it off with cold water. You can repeat this process once a week for two months.

Antibacterial agent

Turmeric powder can be used as an antibacterial agent to kill bacteria, you can use it to clean wound and cut.  To clean wound, add a small amount of turmeric powder to a large container containing water and using the solution to wash the wound regularly. The turmeric would help the wound to heal faster and kill the bacteria present in the wound.

Remove dark spot

Darkspot is blemish that appear on your skin, the color ranges from black to red. Though it is not painful, the appearance on the skin often irritate people, that is why people all over the world have been finding solution to remove spot or blemishes from the skin. Turmeric powder works by lightening the dark spot leaving you with a spotless and glowing skin.

Mix equal amount of turmeric powder, honey, and lemon juice until it forms a paste. Clean your face with water and pat it to dry before applying a layer of paste on your face and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes before washing it off.

Anti-aging

The features of aging skin include wrinkles, dryness, itching, increased pigmentation, and loss of elasticity. This is common among old people especially from 40 years and above. There are a lot of homemade recipes that can protect skin against anti-aging by maintaining the skin tissue structure and stimulates skin cell regeneration.

Mix ¼ tablespoon of turmeric powder with egg white and stir it together to form a face mask, use a cotton swab to apply the mixture to your face and leave it for 20 minutes before washing it off.

Hair loss and dandruff

Dandruff is a skin condition that affects the scalp by the falling of hair. This condition generally involves body areas that are rich in sebaceous, or oil-secreting, glands. It is most common among people with oily skin. Turmeric powder works because of the presence of curcumin which helps to prevent and cure scalp infection thereby preventing the loss of hair.

Mix ½ tablespoon of turmeric powder with 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil, and apply the mixture to the scalp, gently massage the scalp with your finger to allow the oil to penetrate and reach all over the scalp. Rinse it off with water and shampoo; you can use the recipes every week to prevent dandruff and hair loss.

Control oily skin

People with oily skin are more prone to pimples and acne. This is caused by the over secretion of sebum by the sebaceous gland. The Sebaceous glands are usually attached to hair follicles and release a fatty substance, sebum, into the follicular duct and thence to the surface of the skin. This gland is present all over the body except the sole of the foot and palm of the hand.

Mix equal amount of turmeric powder with sandalwood until it forms a smooth paste, apply the paste on your skin, and allow it to dry before washing it off with warm water. This homemade recipe can be used regularly once a week to remove the excess oil.

Lighten stretch mark

Stretch mark is formed when there is overstretching of the skin elastic tissue; this is usually experienced by pregnant women, however, they sometimes are seen in women who have not been pregnant.

Mix turmeric powder with rosewater and apply the mixture to the affected area and leave it to dry before washing it off. You can repeat this homemade recipe every day until the stretch mark is lightening out.
